About Me

What i am doing

Not often do you meet someone who has dedicated over 28 years towards planting 6000 trees saplings year after year. This, by trekking the expanse of a state as large as TamilNadu; by visiting and taking classes (through projector) almost 3743 University, College, Schools and Industries, to raise environmental awareness. And, if this isn't special enough, consider how despite earning a modest bus conductor's salary, Yoganathan has consistently worked towards this larger cause.

Marimuthu Yoganathan, Bus conductor, Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation is a known eco activist, Yoganathan has been awarded “Eco Warrior” award by Honble Vice-Presedent of India, 'Unsung Hero' award by wild life film maker Mr. Mike Pandey and film actor Mr. John Abraham in “Timberland” function held in Delhi, “Real Hero” award by CNN-IBN at Mumbai.

The recognition from US based Footwear Company Timberland was bestowed on Yoganathan for his outstanding work in planting 1,20,000 saplings across the state, besides creating awareness about protecting the environment among the students. This was among the 14 awards that Yoganathan has received so far for his pet project 'UyirVaza Oru Mararn'. Under the initiative the students have been taught to plant one tree sapling on their birth day.

Tamilnadu Government has conferred on him the tiltle 'Sutru Suzal Seyal Veerar'. He was the recipient of the Eco Warrior Award conferred by the Indian Government last year. "My request to have the award sent to me by post was declined. I was concerned about the train fare, the days taken for my leave, and accommodation costs in New Delhi. But, I'm glad I received the award in person from none other than the Vice President of the country,".

Let us stand behind and support his green activities.
